I've decided to join an online book club. My love for British Classical literature has been left unnurtured for a long time, and I miss my old friends, Bronte, Austen and Tolkien. So, I searched on google for "online book clubs" and Barnes and Noble was the first link that popped up. I went to their site and was delighted to find clubs for all different tastes and bents. There's the "epic" forum - they're discussing Anna Karenina at the moment. There's a forum for "Literature by Women" - they're reading Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen this month.
I'm definitely what you would call an "escapist" junkie, in that I love to read novels or watch movies with very happy endings. I don't like major tear-jerkers where the love that someone's been waiting for all their lives dies some tragic death and the lover is to go on for the rest of their lives with their bittersweet memories. All that being said, I'll probably be looking for books that are either epic and grand, or leaning more towards stories that end with everyone being married to the love of their lives and having lots of babies and grandbabies. So, Northanger Abbey it is!
